We had some company last week so we were flexible with our meal plan, and we also are having company from out of state this week, and going to a family graduation so we will again have to be flexible. Having all the ingredients on hand for various meals allows for that flexibility, to be able to prepare a quick meal when needed or something more special when company comes.

Here is what we ate at home last week and my estimated costs for my family of five.

Quiche and Banana Bread
Crust: $1.12
Broccoli: $.50
Cheese: $ .60
Eggs: $.44
Bacon: $.50 (I buy it cooked and crumbled in bulk from Sams Club)
Banana Bread ingredients: $2.00
Total: $5.16

Vegetarian Corn Dogs: $7.56  (My five year old’s plate)
Broccoli: $1.00
Oranges: $1.88
Rolls: free from mother-in-law
Total: $10.44

BLT Pasta Salad
Garlic Bread Toast: $2.69
Romaine: $1.00
Tomatoes: $1.50
Shells: $1.00
Bacon: $.75
Dressing: $.25
Onion: $.25
Total: $7.44

Pasta with Turkey Meat Sauce
Pasta: $.50
Turkey: $3.00
Garlic Bread Toast: $2.69
Sauce: $1.00
Mixed Vegetables: $.25 (doubled coupon)
Total: $7.44

Chicken Pot Pie
Crusts: $2.24
Mixed Vegetables: $1.36
Chicken: $2.99
Broth: $.60
Butter, flour milk: $.50
Total: $7.69

Hot Dogs: $2.48
Buns: $1.19
Watermelon: $1.25
Carrots: $.40
Total: $5.32

So let’s see, my total for these  six meals is: $43.49.  I feel good about that since we ate out once this week with a relative and the total for six of us was $76! (For one meal of mostly sandwiches and burgers!) When you see the difference in the cost of eating out versus eating at home, it is really eye opening. I know that those of us who cook for our families do need a break once in a while, so I am so not against eating out, but seeing the bill when we do, definitely motivates me to cook more.

So her is my Menu Plan for this week:

Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas    (Didn’t make last week)
Homemade Pizza (Didn’t make last week either)
Taco Salad
Pasta with Turkey Meat Sauce, salad, and garlic bread
Burritos
Grillers or Hot Dogs, french fries, raw veggie and fruit

Have a great week!!
