How to Clean a Stove Top Made of Glass

How to clean a stove top made of glass is not hard at all, as some people think. I grew up with a glass stove top, and after living in a couple of different rental apartments early in my marriage, and having the stoves with drip pans on top, I happen to much prefer glass tops. The last two stoves my husband and I have bought, I picked the glass tops. To me they are so much easier to keep clean than trying to clean the ones with drip pans, and trying to get all the debris that falls down inside. That is just my opinion, and each of course is entitled to their own.  I do know lots of friends who just prefer cooking with gas, but I love my glass top stove.

My first glass top stove came with a special little bottle of cleanser that promised not to scratch the top.  It was a tiny little bottle that came with a reorder slip, and I thought that was the only way to clean it, but I found that Softscrub from the grocery worked great and was not too expensive. However, one day when I ran out and needed to clean some burnt on “gunk,” I reached for some baking soda, and lo and behold, it worked great and did not scratch my stove!

  1. I have had a glass cook top for 13 years and LOVE it. I wipe it after every meal and clean often. I use one of those non scratch pads and Bar Keepers Friend. I clean other things with baking soda so don’t know why I never tried it.

  2. Wonderful idea! I have used barkeepers friend in the past and really didn’t like to because of the chemicals in it. I have a good idea that baking soda will also work on pots and pans too. Thanks!

  3. Great tip! I use baking soda for cleaning, but not on my stove top. Silly me, I really need to do that, because my stovetop always has something on it that I just can’t seem to get rid of.
