How to Clean Your Computer Screen

While uploading pictures onto a blog post this week, I noticed specks and spots that I first thought was on my picture, but quickly realized it was my dirty computer screen. So I tried wiping at the spots with my finger tips, and when that didn’t work, I scratched at them with my finger nails.

Don’t do that!

The spots didn’t come off, and luckily I stopped before I did any damage to my screen.

I looked on eHow to see about the proper way to clean my screen, and it was extremely simple and worked like a charm.

Now most computers, tv’s and Nintendo DS’s  come with these types of cloths, or you can buy them in the electronics section of department or office supply stores.
You don’t want to use any old cloth because it could possibly scratch your screen.

You DON’T want a wet screen.
Now some suggest using distilled water, but others don’t specify that, so it’s up to you.
The other important point is to use different parts of the cloth as you clean so you are not pulling debris along on your screen as you clean it, and thus possibly scratching it.

  1. My keyboard is due for a “spring cleaning”. Any ideas besides a can of compressed air?

  2. Thanks for sharing this. Several years ago I read that using your fingers to wipe the screen could damage it, and I’ve been trying to warn friends because I see people do it all the time–even using their fingers and spit (!)
I now use distilled water just to be safe.
