Tie Dye Cupcakes

I happened across this Kraft Jello video for how to make these cute tie dye cupcakes, and since we had a three birthday celebration coming up, I decided to make them.

They are a little more time consuming than regular cupcakes, but lots cuter.
Here is what you need:

1 White cake mix
3 different colors of jello, 1/4 cup of each dry mix
(The Kraft recipe site uses lemon, lime and strawberry, but I can’t see why it matters which kind, just pick the colors you like. I used raspberry, orange and lime)
1 container of frosting (Kraft says vanilla, but after using that, I think I would prefer a “fruity” flavor to go along with the fruity flavor of the jello)

Make up the cake mix according to the regular directions,

and divide the batter into three bowls equally.

Add 1/4 cup of a different color to each bowl and mix with a spoon.

Then spoon 2 Tablespoons full of each color into each cupcake liner. 1 cake mix makes 24 cupcakes.

I even used a book under the pan so it would tilt a bit and keep the colors from running together so much.

Be careful not to overfill, like I did a bit.

Bake according to package directions.

  7. I made camo cupcakes (for an army party) using that same technique … they turned out so fun. Love the bright colors you used!

  8. we used to do something similar like that growing up.We used a white or Yellow cake mix, and either baked a cake or cupcakes. After either one had been set aside to cool completely. Once the cakes were cool my mom would take a stick of some sort a skewer would work, small dowel would even work and she would poke all over the top part of the cake or cupcakes. then she would take the jello mixture ( she did different colors) and took each color and poured it over the cake into the different holes. After she used each of the colors she would let it setup. At dessert time when she would cut into it you would see all sort of colors. That was my and my brothers favorite part. I do not know the name of the cake if there was one or if it was something my mom made up on her own. Seeing these cupcakes reminded me of that cake. I think I will make one for my grandson next time he is over.
