Balloon Wreath Decor

I am taking a stab at creating some artwork for our temporary boy/girl shared room. Last week I showed you the “reptilian” canvases I made, and even though I’m sort of trying the green, brown and white color scheme, I thought I would also attempt a multi-colorful balloon wreath that I’ve seen all over the web.

Several websites have good tutorials, but my inspiration was from Sew Sweet Cottage because I just loved the little curly cues she added.

Here is what you need:

1 straw or foam wreath
144 or so balloons
Floral pins (some use one for each balloon, I used one for every two balloons)
Pipe cleaners
Ribbon to wrap wreath (optional)
If you want to wrap your wreath with ribbon, do this first, and even though I didn’t do it, it does give a nice finished look to the back of the wreath.

Then take a floral pin and poke it through your balloon or balloons,

I did mine like this, and then folded them over to cover the pin.

Then start sticking them into your wreath form.

I tried to space the colors evenly but some packaged balloons don’t have the same number of each color, so it helps to sort and do a count ahead of time.

Just keep adding and filling till it looks like you want it too.

I used a pencil and wrapped the pipe cleaners around it to make them curly looking, and then used floral pins to secure them.

Then I hung it above the window in the little kids’ room (sorry, it’s hard to get a picture with the window, but I wanted to show you where I hung it).

It added some nice color to the room, and it wasn’t hard to make, even for a “craft challenged” person like me!

  1. This turned out great! My mom made one of these a couple years ago and she spent quite a lot of time on it. It’s a fun decoration to pull out at birthday time and I’m glad she put the time into it. Yours looks fantastic. I love the little pipe cleaner accents too! Thanks for sharing at While He Was Napping. Enjoy your weekend!
