Marshmallow Pops

I checked out a book from the library called “Sugarlicious,” hoping to find some fun inspiration. I found an idea for these cute dipped marshmallows that look like cake pops, and I knew my kids would have fun making them.

After a few purchases at my local superstore, including candy melts, marshmallows, chocolate chips, sprinkles and…

these handy little lollipop sticks which come in different sizes (in the craft section), and run about $1.99, my helpers and I set to work.

First we melted our candy melts in the microwave, according to the package directions.

We used pink and white melts.

Then insert your stick gently into a marshmallow, and don’t go too far in, or as I learned later, your marshmallow will slide right down the stick.

Roll around your marshmallow in the melted candy melts, till it’s coated well, but not drippy.

It does help to have an assistant, so one can hold, and one can sprinkle.

This inexpensive floral foam (also in the craft and floral section) is extremely helpful for holding up your decorated pops.

I just put mine in a glass measuring cup to begin with.

The middle pop is what happens if you push your stick too far in.

There was a little too much of this going on.

But we did end up with this at the end,

A few tips:

Don’t make on a sweltering day, and it helps to refrigerate the pops for a few minutes after making them, so the coating can harden a bit.
I used an empty can stuffed with floral foam and covered with scrapbook paper for  the “vase.”
The mess with little helpers will be bigger than you think, so plan accordingly.
I didn’t get around to using the chocolate chips, but if you do, make sure you add a Tablespoonful of shortening so the consistency will be right.
I can totally see using these for decoration and snacking at parties, showers and for holidays, just decorate accordingly.
Have fun, and forget about the mess while you are spending time with your kids.

  2. These look great- wouldn’t have thought to dip marshmallows in candy melts. I bet they taste great! Also, great idea using the floral foam to place the sticks.

  3. Very cute AND they look easier than the cake pops but with the same effect (like you said almost like decorations at a party). Thanks so much for sharing your “how to”s for this fun treat. I saw your most over at “Metamorphosis Monday”.
