Beautiful Candy Cane Vase Flower Arrangement

Have you seen these beautiful Christmas flower arrangements with a candy cane vase?  I’ve seen several different styles, and have just been itching to make one.  So I got busy this week, and raided my craft supplies and Christmas decorations, and the only thing I ended up buying for this project was the candy canes!

With the average comparable Christmas themed flower arrangements starting at around $40 though, this one would still be a bargain!

Supplies:
4 inch diameter can, washed and dried (I used a pumpkin can)
40 candy canes (this gives you a few extra in case of breakage)
9 artificial red roses
3-4 pine cones
3-4 small metal Christmas decorations
One bunch of long wispy white flowers with greenery
Floral foam
One yard of Christmasy ribbon
Wooden skewers
Optional: fine white sparkly glitter

Tools:
Wire cutters
Glue gun and glue sticks

Excuse the spelling book in the background, I was giving an oral spelling test as I was gluing.  🙂
Now some people take the wrappers off the candy canes, and when they are done, varnish over them, but I wasn’t going to do that, so I left the wrappers on.   Since I didn’t like how the wrappers looked though, sticking out from the candy canes, I trimmed the excess wrappers off, put a bead of glue on the tips of the candy canes, and the wrappers shrank up and weren’t as noticeable.

I grabbed some wooden skewers from my kitchen, cut them to the length I wanted, and hot glued the pine-cones and metal ornaments onto them.

After it all came together, I thought the pine-cones needed a little sparkle, so I drizzled some fine white glitter onto them.  If you choose to do this with your pine-cones, I suggest spraying them with a little adhesive, and putting the glitter on first, before you make your arrangement, as it would be a lot less messy!
If you see any holes or gaps in your arrangement that need something, use your leftover leaves from your roses to fill them in.
