Helpful Dinner Ideas

Happy new week!  Are you feeling the effects of the time change?  It always takes me about a week until I feel like the time on the clock matches up with my internal clock.  Today may be the day for an extra cup of coffee!  🙂
My daughter turned 13 last week, and with my oldest son getting married this summer, each birthday of my children seems to be a bit more emotional than usual, as I can see clearer that all my children’s time at home is limited.  I know they are supposed to grow up, and move on, but it makes me wonder if I enjoyed them enough, taught them enough, and was just enough as a mother…   We did have a good time for her birthday, though.  We did something a little outside of our comfort zone, and took the kids to one of those trampoline, zip-lining and rock wall climbing centers.  I even tried everything, except the rock wall.  My hubby however aced the rock wall, and left us all a bit envious as to how easy he made it look.  It was a fun time, and was nice to get out and do something active, and then we came home and ate way too much ice-cream cake.  Since we’ve gotten a few ice-cream cakes from Dairy Queen under our belts, I can’t convince the kids to let me bake them their birthday cakes any more.  😛
They still want me to make dinner for them though!

  1. Meal line up looks pretty darn good. I love ham and bean soup but am mostly Paleo so I just get ham these days. I can eat beans that have been soaked but it takes up so much time. My dad’s favorite meal in the world is beans and ham, will share with my mom so she can cook up a pot. She has really slack off on the cooking since becoming an empty nester.
    Have a super day,

    1. Thanks! I grew up eating brown beans and cornbread with lots of the bean “juice” and topped with ketchup, relish and/or onions, and so I love it. My hubby didn’t grow up with that as a staple so it’s not his favorite. Funny how childhood can shape even our tastes for food…

    1. You’re meal plan sounds delish too! I so agree about the salads that come with beautiful warmer weather!
