Oven Baked Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

My kids have inherited my love for pizza, but sometimes we run out of time to let the dough rise for our favorite pizza dough recipe. So our delicious quick alternative is oven baked pizza grilled cheese.

Ingredients

  • Sliced bread of your choice we like Italian
  • Pepperoni slices we like turkey pepperoni
  • Provolone or Mozzarella cheese slices
  • Butter
  • Italian Seasoning
  • Garlic Salt
  • Your favorite Pasta Sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Depending on how many sandwiches you’re making, you need 2 slices of bread for each, and about a Tablespoon of butter for each sandwich, and of course at least one cheese slice for each. Now I like to melt my butter a bit and brush it on the outside of each slice, but it’s probably not necessary, if you prefer instead to use a knife and spread un-melted butter on your bread.
  • After buttering, one side of each slice of bread (the side exposed to the pan), sprinkle each slice with a bit of garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Don’t get heavy handed with the garlic salt or your sandwich will be too salty. Then lay half of your buttered slices face down on your baking sheet, top each with a slice of cheese, and a layer of pepperoni and another slice of buttered bread. When you’ve made how many you want, they are ready to go in the oven.
  • In a preheated 425 degree oven, bake on one side for around 6 minutes, checking though to get it to your preferred degree of “toastyness.” Then carefully flip over and bake for another 3 minutes or so, again watching for the perfect “brown-ness” for your taste.
  • Serve with pasta sauce for dipping.
