Indoor Play Area

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but around here we have very cold winters, and most of the time, lots of snow too! This makes it more challenging at times to get the kids outdoors for the physical activity which they need.

So for those times when it's hard to let the kids burn off some energy outside,
I've been working on some accessories for our basement that can help them burn off energy inside.

I bought these little scooters a few years ago,
and the kids like to push each other around on them,
or lay on them on their bellies and scoot themselves around.

I looked into buying a low balance beam for them to walk on,
but they were expensive,
and so my hubby made one for just a few dollars with 2x4's.

We also bought and installed some rings and a bar,
and my children love swinging on it.
At a yard sale, I purchased a child's basketball hoop, and my hubby
secured it to a support in the basement
so the kids can even slam dunk a ball!

We are also storing a family member's ping pong table, and it's so much fun!

Indoor Play Areas for KidsAt a discount store a few weeks ago, I found these hockey sticks which will be fun
to play with too, with a couple of laundry baskets on their side for goals!

I hope this gives you some fun ideas, just make sure if you install any equipment,
to do so correctly and safely,

and supervise your children while they play!

Need some more ideas for children's activities?

Margo, this is an awesome room! I have been wanting to do something like this in our unfinished basement. Especially since we are hearing that we may have a big winter this year (lots of snow). My little guy would love to play in an area like that. 🙂

This is too cool and would be so awesome for my boys! Too bad we live in an area that doesn't have basements! I will have to try and adapt some of your ideas to fit in my living room. Thanks for sharing at Weekend Wander this past week! Hope to see you this week too.
