Handwritten Lampshade

I’ve seen a couple of unique lampshades lately, and decided to try making my own after seeing  one at Little Glass Box.  She wrote a letter to her son on a piece of fabric and then covered her lamp shade with it; you can check it out here.
I decided to cheat and just write directly on the lampshade itself which I already had.

Unfortunately, I didn’t snap a before picture of the shade, but just imagine a plain blah cream lampshade.

I used my trusty black sharpie marker, and set the lampshade in my lap, and started writing some of my favorite inspirational scriptures, turning the shade as I went.

It was such a simple quick fix for a bland lampshade, and I am so pleased with the results which took less than 10 minutes.

The options are endless since you could write whatever you choose to fit the setting!

  1. I think this is the perfect fix for a lamp shade I can’t replace, but it has some small burns on it. I can just write over them and “TaDa!” fixed! Thank you for sharing!

  2. So cute and clever! I am going to do this TODAY with the lyrics to my favorite songs. Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. I love this, but it looks so daunting to me! I would be worried about keeping it straight on a curved surface. You have a steady hand. You’d think, as an artist, I’d not quiver at the idea of writing on a lampshade, but I’d be quivering in my boots!

  4. Wow! You must have a very steady hand to write on a spiraling surface and continue to be so straight. Mine would be all over the place!

  5. Stopping by from Vanessa at Nifty Thrifty. Your lampshade is really pretty. I’m a little worried, since I’ve been told I have the worse handwriting in the world. I don’t really think it’s that bad! How did you ever get it so straight. that would be my only concern. My fingers are crossed that you will share over at Sunday’s Best Par.tay going on tonight!

  6. Elegant and meaningful–can’t get any better than that. Now if I can just find someone with lovely handwriting to help me out!

  7. Gorgeous. I love this. And the possibilities of what you write on the lampshade are endless… imagine a favorite recipe for the kitchen or a poem for the lamp next to where you read… Oh so awesome

  17. What a GREAT idea! I’m a children’s minister & thinking how awesome this would be for a shade in my office!!! Thanks for the GREAT idea!

  18. Your shade is so precious! You are brave to do this project, even though it turned out so cute. I never would have been able to write all that (and on a slant!) and not mess it up completely. Great job!
    His blessings,
