Pizza with a Quick Pourable Crust

I have been making pizza dough since I was a child, so yikes, around 35 years. We had pizza every Friday night, and my mom usually had me make up the dough, and I’ve shared the recipe we used, and I still use, HERE.  It’s just the best, most tender, beautiful crust, but it takes two risings, so it needs to be made up a couple of hours before you actually bake it, and sometimes you just need a quicker pizza fix.  😛  I found this recipe in an old Ohio State Grange Cookbook that I bought from the library, and gave it a try!

Even though I still prefer my old standby recipe for pizza dough, this worked great if you’re in a hurry, or just want to make one pizza.

Here is what you need:
1 cup of flour
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 eggs
2/3 cup of milk ( I used skim)
salt to taste (around 1/4 teaspoon)
Mix together, and pour the batter into a greased and floured 9×13 baking dish.  Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for around 15-20 minutes.

Now you’re ready to add your toppings!
I used:  1 pound ground beef (browned), about 40 slices of pepperoni, 15 ounces pizza sauce and 2 cups mozzarella cheese
Optional: sliced onions, pepper strips, ham, diced tomatoes, mushrooms….

If using ground beef, add that first and then the sauce and other toppings, finishing with the cheese.

****Tip: Use a thick pasta or pizza sauce, or strain it first to make it nice and thick, otherwise your crust will get soggy.

Bake an additional 15 minutes or so at 400 degrees.
