Homemade Natural Sink Cleanser

April 17, 2015

Our local library is a huge resource for our family, and recently I checked out The Naturally Clean Home  to find inspiration for some easy ideas for cleaning my home with more natural ingredients.

That’s where I found this wonderfully smelling idea for a quick and easy sink cleanser. I added a bit more of the orange oil for a stronger citrus scent, and let me tell you, it smells fantastic!

Here’s the quick and simple recipe:

In a bowl mix together:
1 cup baking soda
3 teaspoons cinnamon
6 or so drops of orange essential oil
Blend well.

When you’re ready to scrub your sink, use a couple of teaspoons of the mixture, and a wet cloth or sponge to scrub. Then rinse the entire sink thoroughly with water.

I love it because it smell so much better than other harsh chemical cleansers. It even leaves your hands smelling sweet for hours!

Baking soda is such an inexpensive item, and probably has hundreds of uses, but here are two other ways I use it to keep my home fresh:

Use baking soda to clean a glass stove top!

Make homemade air fresheners!

Don’t be afraid to give homemade cleaners a try!

Found your blog through Pinterest and have really enjoyed it. Question about the homemade cleaner with essential oil….where do you recommend purchasing essential oils, getting the best quality oil for a reasonable price? I live the east coast, but I also don’t mind purchasing items on line if necessary, to get the best price. Great blog!!!

Hey there, thank you for the kind words! I purchased my orange oil at a health food store, it was either The Vitamin Shoppe or GNC, I can’t remember which one. πŸ˜›

Just the other day I was using a store bought cleanser to clean my sink but realized how fast it goes and what an unnecessary cost it is to continuously buy it. This was perfect! It’s easy, effective, and will save me money so I can use it freely without stressing about not using too much. Thanks!

Wow that’s a great tip for cleaning sinks. I’ve always had problems with getting the sink to have some sort of semi-permanent clean feel to it so I’ll try that out thanks!

Has anyone found a natural cleaner that removes orange iron stains from showers and toilets?

I love this so much! I don’t have a huge need for a sink cleaner but when I do I grab this! It smells like a warm orange cinnamon blend you would find at Yankee candle. I make this all the time but not just for the sink. I sprinkle it on my carpet and let it sit for a while, I use it in the tub and toilet with vinegar to add a little extra. I leave the jar out just as a room freshener. My boyfriend says it smells like Christmas and around fall and winter it really does hit the spot. Thank you so much. Also, I got all my essential oils from NOW foods on Amazon. I bought 3 around 6 months I use them at least every other day and they are still all over half full! And they are hands down the most reasonably priced and excellent quality.

Could you use lemon oil with just the baking soda for a delicious lemony smell? If not, is there something else to add for a lemon-fresh scent?
