Whenever I’m given a box of chocolates, I am quite predictable. I always look for the caramels. It’s really the only kind I fancy, and so when I saw an easy partly-homemade chocolate caramel idea, I knew I was going to be trying it.
They turned out scrumptious, and were so incredibly easy, that I thought they would make a great little favor added to Christmas presents!
You only need a couple of ingredients, and you get a lot of bang for your buck!
What you need: Caramels and chocolate chips
For every 12 caramels, you will need a heaping 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
The caramels are a bit hard right out of the package, so microwave them for a few seconds to soften them up just a tiny bit, without letting them get mushy. I did six at a time, and it only took about 11 seconds in the microwave.
For the chocolate chips, I used mini milk chocolate ones, and to melt them, I microwaved them for 30 seconds, stirred, microwaved for 15 seconds more, stirred again, and they were perfect.
Then with a spoon, roll them around to coat them with the melted chocolate.
Then set them on parchment paper or wax paper, and let them set for about two hours, or till the chocolate is firm.
Some people like “salted caramels” so you can drizzle some sea salt on them before they harden if you like. I tried a few with it, but my personal preference is without it.
Since I wanted to attach them to Christmas presents as a little favor, I purchased some candy wrapping and little treat bags.
I wrapped them in the gold foil.
Then I added them to the treat bags, and tied them with red ribbon.
Finally, I secured them with ribbon to my presents!
These were so easy to make and a scrumptious little treat, not just for Christmas, but anytime, and I think they make a perfect charming favor as well.

This is such a cute idea! You are always so creative. Where did you purchase the gold candy wrappers?
I purchased them online through Amazon. 🙂
