Welcome to a new week! Many of us have a holiday this week with the 4th of July. I’m thankful to get to visit with my parents, and also my married son and his sweet wife. We’ll be grilling burgers and hot dogs for the 4th, and enjoying some of my mother’s special home cooking, as well as an awesome parade!
My mother is such an amazing lady who can whip up the most delicious dishes out of a little bit of nothing. A few years ago, my parents had a tornado at their home, and afterwards my siblings and I were with them for a few days, helping clean up their yard. They were out of power (as it turned out for two weeks), but we were so well fed, you wouldn’t have known from the scrumptious food we ate, that she was only occasionally able to run a gas generator to help prepare meals.
She’s taught my siblings and I so much about food preparation, and there’s still plenty of kitchen skills I’d like to learn from her. To be able to prepare food for yourself is such an important skill to learn, and I know I need to do a better job teaching my kids. Preparing and eating food at home is usually so much less expensive and healthier than eating out, of course depending on what you make. Don’t be shy about teaching your children how to prepare food in the kitchen, just be mindful of their age, abilities and safety. 🙂
This group of ladies enjoys cooking and sharing recipes with you, and we have some delicious dinner ideas again this week. Be sure to check these out:
