Amazing Korean Beef Recipe & Great Flavoring for Chicken Too

For years I was too intimidated to try Asian inspired recipes.  I don’t know if I thought the ingredients sounded too fancy or hard to find, or what exactly my issue was, but now I LOVE trying Asian recipes, and they frequently become family favorites.  This recipe for a delicious Korean sauce/flavoring/marinade can be used to flavor either ground beef or chicken (I’ve used it many times for both), and it pairs perfectly with string beans or broccoli and white rice.

The 2 proteins that I always keep in my freezer are browned and drained ground beef and cubed or shredded baked chicken breasts.  I usually cook up several pounds of ground beef at a time, then drain and cool it, and package it up into meal size portions and quickly freeze it.  I also package up chicken breasts after I’ve cooked them in my crockpot, and shredded  or cubed them.  Either of these can then quickly become the base for many different delicious dinners, with very little work.

This amazingly delicious Korean Beef is just one of the dishes that my precooked beef or chicken works well with.

Here’s this delicious sauce/flavoring/marinade recipe for beef or chicken:

  • Use with 1 pound of either ground beef or chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cloves of garlic, chopped finely, or the equivalent in jarred garlic or garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup lite (reduced sodium) soy sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Now these amounts reflect my tastes, but certainly if you like things spicier, add more red pepper flakes, or if you’re a fan of ginger, add more.  I LOVE sesame oil, so I use lots!

Starting with precooked ground beef or chicken:
Put all the flavoring ingredients in a frying pan on low heat and whisk them all together.  Then add your cooked ground beef or chicken (thawed), and warm thoroughly over medium heat with a couple of gentle stirs to coat all the meat or chicken.  Serve with rice and broccoli or string beans.

Starting with uncooked ground beef:  First brown your ground beef till thoroughly cooked through, and all nice and crumbly.  Drain off the excess fat, and then add all your seasoning ingredients at once, after whisking them together in a bowl.  Heat through thoroughly while giving a few light stirs, so all the meat is coated with the delicious flavors.  Serve with rice and broccoli or string beans.

Starting with uncooked chicken breasts: Bake, grill or boil your chicken breasts, till cooked to an internal temperature between 160 – 170 degrees F and the juices are clear.  Then shred or chop into bite size pieces.  Whisk all flavoring ingredients together in a bowl, and then add chicken and seasoning mixture to a frying pan and heat through thoroughly over medium heat, while giving a few light stirs, so all the chicken is coated with the delicious flavors.  Serve with rice and broccoli or string beans.

The "sauce" for this dish is so good I could almost eat it with a spoon. It's also very versatile because it tastes great with ground beef or chicken!

Once it’s on your plate, do with it what you will, stir it all together and eat it that way, or if you’re a non-mixer (many younger kids are), it doesn’t matter!  😛   This dish is a total favorite at our house, whether I combine the seasonings with beef OR chicken!
