I’ve been trying to put together a cohesive and colorful look to the shared bedroom of my youngest son and daughter. After looking at rugs, and deciding I didn’t want to invest the money right now, I brought one up from the basement play area instead.

So I needed some more primary colored artwork without spending much. Here is what I came up with.

First, I painted a frame which I already had lying around in the basement, white. Then, since I had purchased a couple of colorful pillowcases, I decided to frame one, and hang it up.

I like how it pulls out some of the colors from the rug without being to busy.
I was poking around in the office supplies section at Big Lots, and found a colorful folder with the chevron pattern on it, and decided to turn it into artwork as well.

and painted it white, and then simply framed the folder.

It contains the same red, green and gold as the rug.
The room is really coming together and starting to look warm, colorful and inviting. All I have left to do is organize the toys and shelves, and switch out some of the bins, and hopefully I’ll be ready soon to show the room all done!

Really cute!
I love framed fabric 🙂

very cute!
I love Big Lots! I would have never thought to use that folder as a picture. Great idea! I would love it if you would link up to my party going on right now. It is Tip toe thru Tuesday and is co-hosted by three different people, so that is triple the traffic. I hope to see you there. Christy

So cute and creative! I framed some wallpaper for my first son’s bedroom, and we still have the framed wallpaper. Just never used the wallpaper!
Wow, a folder! Who would’ve thought? It looks awesome. I may have to find some folders to decorate my daughter’s room!
Great idea for inexpensive artwork!

Love the folder idea and I admire your color sense. Great job!
love the chevron folder idea! very clever! and cute!
Very cool! You could also use a dry erase marker on the glass of the framed folder and have a message board. A friend of mine just did that with an eight opening frame and some scrapbook paper, and now has a message board to keep track of what is going on each day of the week.
