We’ve decided to have our two youngest share a room for a year or so while we do some work on our house, however as many of you know, one is a boy and one is a girl. This can create a bit of a challenge for accessorizing a shared room.
My daughter’s room is the room we are working with, and starting to make inexpensive changes to make the decor more “boy/girl” friendly for both of them. We started by switching the queen bed out for a hand me down set of bunk beds we were given years ago by a family member. Since they both like the top bunk best, they are switching top and bottom bunks every other night (Hey it keeps the peace).
I don’t want to spend very much since this is a temporary situation, so I decided to try and make some artwork they both would like.
I bought some canvases and some fun material with bugs and reptiles and various creatures that they both think are cute, and the colors complemented the existing room color.
After giving the material a good ironing to get out wrinkles, I mod podged it to the canvas,
wrapped it around the back,
and stapled it all around.
For good measure, I gave it another coat of mod podge,
and added some ribbon trim to finish it off.
I also made up two smaller canvases with a complementary fabric,
and then hung them on the wall.
It’s starting to evolve into a theme…
I’ll show you more of the room as we add a few more touches! It’s challenging to do a combined room, but I’m convinced, not impossible.
Super cute! This looks like our bathroom’s theme… 🙂
I am just starting on a room for the grandchildren and have been faced with the same challenge. I will go with a very classic American heritage theme in red, white, blue and tan. I can’t wait to get it done and have them come for a visit!
What a good idea! And so easy! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Adorable!
