One of my children’s everday chore is to empty the dishwasher when the cleaning cycle is finished. This child doesn’t always notice (or so I think) and so often I get asked by someone if the dishes are clean or dirty, especially if one of us has opened the dishwasher, and the finished light is turned off.
I’ve seen magnets before with “dirty” or “clean” on them, but have never purchased them. So to help my household stay on top of the condition of the dishes, I decided to make some magnets of my own. The nice part of this little craft, was that I already had everything on hand that I needed, so basically they were free. Right!?
Here’s how I made them:
I drew a tea cup shape on a piece of paper for a pattern,
and then found some thick cardboard to use as my base.
I cut some pretty scrapbook paper to cover the cardboard with, and then modpodged it on.
Then I used some sticky letters to make my words, and modpodged again over the top.
I attached some magnets to the backs, and they were ready to go.
and…
Now it will be plain to all whether the dishes are clean or dirty, or if the dishwasher needs emptying. I can keep the magnets in a drawer by the dishwasher or on the refrigerator.
Not fancy, but it works!
Oh I love this. …This is cute. I don’t have any kids but I do have a 56 yr old kid. I should make these for him..Im tired of him asking if the dishes are clean or dirty.. In my mind Im thinking, can’t you open the door and look? LOL!!..
Margo, are you getting hit with a lot of spam on your blog at all? I just put up a post on mine because I am getting hit left and right.. Thanks so much 🙂

Love this idea! Also, I am curious about your answer to Robin’s question above about spam. I have just started a blog and am feeling so discouraged at the high amount of spam comments everyday. Do you have any suggestions? I am on wordpress. Thanks, Margo! Blessing, Liz in PA
These magnets are so genius! We’ve been doing this in our house for years now and it helps so much!
Such a good idea! I’d love if you’d like up to The DIY’ers: http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2013/05/the-diyers-and-some-favorites.html
This is such a great idea. We always play the “is it dirty game?” by trying to examine the water on the tops of the cups. 🙂 I’d love for you to share this at my link party “Organize My Life” that opens every Monday night. Stop on by http://maryorganizes.com! Have a great day!
Thanks so much for linking up!
