Frugal and Fun Wrapping Ideas

I have never been a fancy gift wrapper. I tend to be the type to get it done quickly, because it’s just going to get ripped off quickly anyway. However, there are times when I like a gift to look a little special. After finding some easy and fun ways to spruce up packages, I decided to try them out.
Starting with just brown paper and adding a few accessories, I was very pleased with the results.
(Now don’t tell anyone, but I used brown groceries bags for my brown paper, but office supply stores are a great place to find rolls of brown packaging paper).

Idea from The Style FilesFor the first package I used ribbon and a doily.A little tape on the back of the doily and some pretty Christmas ribbon fancied it up just right!For the next package, I used a piece of scrapbook paper and some twine, both of which I already had on hand.I thought it turned out really fun!
I should mention all these gifts were dvds, but any square or rectangle flat item would work. Do you have any old or unused sheet music laying around?Use it to wrap a gift! It took two sheets that I pieced together on the back, and it turned out darling.Baker’s twine is very Christmasy looking, and I tried that as well.Stickers or letter stamps make for some neat addressing.The Sweet Paul blog gave me the idea for making some yarn pom poms to decorate a package.
About.com has easy to follow instructions on how to make a cute pom pom.Of course all the gifts I have to wrap are not perfectly flat and square. My favorite wrapping for smaller irregular shaped gifts is gift bags with tissue paper.The best place I’ve found to buy gift bags, is in bulk at a craft store like Jo-Anns. It’s much cheaper to buy them this way than individually at a department store. I usually find lots of tissue paper options at the dollar store.They make for easy wrapping of different shaped gifts!Be Different, Act Normal gave me this fabulous idea for gifting money, which I just had to try.Begin by pouring tiny confetti into a balloon, then fold your bill very small and gently stuff it down inside.Then blow it up and tie it off, and voila, the recipient has some fun popping it to get to the cash!I had such fun trying out these different gift wrapping ideas, let’s do a quick recap…
