When I go out to eat at a restaurant, I usually order a juicy fat hamburger, because until recently, I didn’t enjoy making them at home. Mixing and shaping hamburger patties just isn’t my favorite thing.
However, last week I’d been checking out all the different slider recipes on the world-wide web, and I decided for Sunday lunch, to try my hand at cooking my hamburger meat in a baking dish like a lot of people do for the little sliders, but then cutting it up into nice big regular size hamburgers instead of little sliders.
It changed my world! It was so easy peazy, and everyone loved them!
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds lean ground beef (I prefer organic grass fed)
- 2 Tablespoons dried minced onion
- 1/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1/2 tsp salt (if your breadcrumbs have a lot of sodium, you may want to reduce your amount of salt)
- Optional: pepper, garlic powder, your favorite cheese
Directions:
Step 1: Mix together all the ingredients.
Step 2: Spread it out, and pat it down evenly, in an older (or one that’s easy to clean) greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
Step 3: Poke holes throughout the meat with a fork to help it cook evenly.
Step 4: Bake in a preheated 400 degree oven for around 30 minutes, and till your meat reaches at least 160 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 5: If you like melted cheese on your burgers, place your cheese slices on near the end, or at the end of cooking time.
Like any hamburger meat, it shrinks as it cooks, so don’t be alarmed. Also some fat and liquid comes out as it cooks. When it’s finished cooking, you can either drain it off, or let it reabsorb. I let it reabsorb, as I do when I make meatloaf.
Then you’re ready to cut your meat into bun size burgers. A lot of people make them into little slider sizes, and serve them on Hawaiian Rolls, but I wanted regular large restaurant size burgers, and the 2 pounds of ground beef made 6 nice size burgers.

Serve them with your favorite burger condiments!
My hubby remarked, “This just goes to show you, you don’t have to eat out to get a really good burger!” It made me feel so good! Isn’t it so satisfying when your family or friends just really enjoy what you’ve cooked!?
I will be making these again very soon!
Thank you for this post. It looks delicious! I can’t wait to try it.
Have never thought to do this before, but makes sense, especially if you have several to feed. Might try this sometime.
I have never thought about cooking hamburgers this way. Pinning for later. 🙂
It’s so nice, especially if you dont want to grill or if you’re in a hurry!
What a great idea for feeding a crowd, this looks awesome! Your post is awesome and thanks so much for sharing it with us at Full Plate Thursday. Have a great week and come back to see us real soon!

What a cool idea! I am definitely trying this out. Thank you for sharing this unique way to make burgers over at Fiesta Friday!
That is such a great idea! Pinned.
Tried and love this recipe! Easy to make, very juicy! My new favorite way to make a hamburger!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Serve on ciabatta rolls… they’re square!
That’s an awesome idea!
Great idea and concept. My family “loves” the fast-food hamburgers from that place that makes them square. Lol. So I have been making my hamburgers that way for many years by basically doing what you described but with a different twist. I season my hamburger and than place equal amounts of the hamburger into gallon sized zipper bags. Laying the bag on the counter, slow push the hamburger mixture to a flat configuration while force all of the air out of the bag. Zip…Seal…the bad up tight and lay the flat bad in the freezer. Whenever we want hamburgers, take the frozen hamburger flat slab out of the freezer, tear off the bag, score the slab from end to end in center both north to south and east to west, with a butcher knife, and you will have 4 equally sized perfect hamburger patties that can be eaten on buns or just plain sliced bread because each patty is the same size as a slice of bread. Enjoy!
