Last year around this time, I showed you all my screened porch makeover, which you can see in its entirety here, but in case you missed it, here is a tiny reminder.

It started out functional, but drab and boring.

After some online shopping and yard sale purchases, it ended up looking much better.

The tray in the first picture received a much needed makeover.
Aside from continually having to wipe off and vacuum up the pollen this year,
we are still enjoying our space very much!
I picked up a couple of colorful items at T.J. Maxx to add some more color and warmth to my little porch.

These flameless lanterns will add a gentle glow in the evenings.

They were only $10 for three!

I also grabbed this handy bright chalkboard to write messages on.

It’s a cheerful way to welcome my guests!

For Mother’s Day this year, I asked my husband for a bird feeder, since I’ve envied them at other people houses, where I so enjoyed sitting and watching the different birds feed and interact.

My hubby picked out a charming finch feeder, and sure enough, the dainty finches came!

So did the cardinals…

Mourning doves, red winged black birds, woodpeckers, blue jays…

…and oh yeah, these little creatures…

Cute, aren’t they? BUT, they’re eating all my bird seed!!!! Arrrrgggh!

I’ve also wanted a hummingbird feeder by my kitchen window, so that I could see it easily, but the window is too high to use a shepherds hook, and there wasn’t an easy spot to hang it.  So I bought this suction cup hanger and put it directly on the window.

It works great, even though I have to get on a ladder to get to it.

I’ve been so tickled to already have some adorable visitors!
If you have any desire for entertainment in your yard, I highly recommend some bird feeders.
Some mornings it’s like a reality television show out there!

  1. I’m so glad you enjoy your bird feeder,I can’t imagine life without one.My husband puts new ones up every year,we enjoy sitting on our deck just watching all the different birds.Oh and by the way I think we have one of the fattest chipmunks ever!

    Enjoy your site very much.

  2. I love your screened porch!! I have a screened porch too, but my furniture always gets wet whenever it rains so I haven’t done much for decor out there. How do you avoid it? Or do you? You’ve inspired me to do something out there!

  3. Build it…or fill it, I guess, and they will come, won’t they? What a wonderful assortment of birds you’ve gotten! I’m sure you’re finding that they add so much to the enjoyment of your screened porch. Looks great! ~Zuni

  4. Hummingbird feeders are DANGEROUS since they go bad so quickly and could sicken the little hummers. Most people don’t have the time it takes to constantly thoroughly wash their hummingbird feeders 3 – 4 times a week.

It’s best to use plants that attract them.
