I really enjoy anything tacos, nachos, burritos… anything really with Southwestern flavors. Recently at a bridal shower, I sampled a taco dip served with tortilla chips, and I was immediately hooked, and had to share it with you! This dip is not only yummy and colorful, but very versatile as well, because you can include the things you like, and omit the ingredients you don’t. You can also serve it on a platter or in individual servings.
INGREDIENTS:
- 8 ounces cream cheese (I used light)
- 8 ounces sour cream (I used light)
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 Tablespoon taco seasoning
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 8 ounces Mexican cheese blend
- 3-4 cups lettuce, shredded
- 2-4 tomatoes, diced
- chopped green onion (optional
- taco sauce (optional)
- Tortilla chips or Pita chips
DIRECTIONS:
- Mix cream cheese, sour cream, and the original recipe includes 3/4 cup mayonnaise, which I omitted because my husband doesn’t like mayonnaise.
- Spread in a 9×13 dish and chill for an hour. If you prefer, single size servings are a pretty option.
- Brown your ground beef, drain, then add taco seasoning and tomato sauce, and cook an additional 5 minutes.
- Let cool, and then spread over the cream cheese mixture. Refrigerate again. (Update 11/2016 – As long as your cream cheese and sour cream are nice and cold when you blend them, and your meat’s cooled down some, you can layer everything and serve it right away, skipping the refrigerating steps).
- When you are ready to serve, top with cheese, lettuce and tomato (and if you like green onion and taco sauce).
- Serve with tortilla chips.
Or serve with those scooped shaped chips, to gather as much yummy-ness into one bite as possible!

Many years ago remember this recipe, making it couple times then forgot about it. Sure glad you unearthed it again. Would be great substitute supper to make, has lots of veggies at least. everything else needed, why not? This would be for 2 seniors for something different. Have leftovers for lunch a couple days after. Printed this out will be making soon.
