I purchased this desk from a lady in my development who had a yard sale,
and I LOVE it!

The roll top, the little pockets of storage, filing in the bottom drawers…It’s my new favorite piece of furniture.

I did want to update the gold toned hardware though.

So I bought this “Dark Bronze Hammered Paint and Primer In One” spray paint, and went to work.

I probably put about 5 coats on the hardware.

I really like the new look as I think it updates the desk, and goes with the other finishes in my living room. Eventually I would like to paint the desk as well because the knots in the wood have bled through in some places, but… I don’t know what color I should use.

Dark couches and furniture for the most part, with rust, reds, maroons, yellow and brown accessories. So my question is, “What color do you think would work for my desk?” If you have an idea for color, please leave me a comment, and I would appreciate it so much!

  1. I think the same dark maroon/red color in your hutch would look fantastic. I love black painted furniture, but your “new” hardware might get lost if it’s too dark. That’s just my opinion – since you asked. 🙂

I *love* the hutch – it’s so pretty. Gotta love yard sales, right?! We just finished up ours (at 6 p.m. today and I’m exhausted!

    1. Thanks so much for your input Ginny, I do love yard sales too! You are a brave woman to have one, because they are sooooo much work, that I have held very few in my life.

  2. I adore white furniture, so I would leave it just the way you fixed it up. What a great find! Thanks for your comment at Gluten Free A-Z and introducing me to your blog. I’m really enjoying it and looking forward to reading through your posts. I just became a follower and would love a follow back.

    1. Thank you, I can tell already this is going to be a tough decision because I like both the light color and maybe an expresso or dark reddish color. Hmmmm maybe a two toned….

  3. Love how you updated the hardware. How about a fun punchy color. Like orange or blue …

    🙂

  4. I think it looks great as it is, but I know white doesn’t always work with what’s in a room. Sometimes it just stands out like a sore thumb. What if you antiqued it a bit so it was not as stark a contrast. Sounds like you have plenty of dark, maybe just a little contrast would be nice. I found you at doodles and stitches.
