In previous years I’ve had one or more eager helpers when it came time to decorate the Christmas tree, but as my kids have gotten older and busier, they don’t seem to enjoy it as much.
This means I’ve begun to go it alone when it comes time to add all of the ornaments and lights to our tree. Now as with a lot of tasks in our home, I do try to be as efficient as I can. So last year when it came time to pack up the Christmas tree, I mentioned to my husband that I wanted to try something. This always makes him a little nervous. LOL!!! Nevertheless, I persevered, and he went along with me, and even purchased what I needed for my idea.
So as you can see from the picture, I decided to lightly wrap my tree in plastic wrap with all of the decorations and lights still attached. My husband found this large roll of plastic at Home Depot, and after a few trips around the tree, we were all set to turn the tree on its side and carry it outside, around the house, and in through the sliding doors to our basement (there are too many tight corners in our house to take it directly to the basement from the inside).
l wrapped it to keep the ornaments from falling off as we made our trip around the house to store the decorated tree in our basement storage.
I was thrilled this most recent Christmas when we carried the tree back upstairs, and my hubby unwrapped it, that it looked almost as good as new.
This is what it looked like with no tweaking of ornaments…pretty good right!?
In less than 5 minutes, with a little tweaking, everything was in tip top shape, as compared to hours, or even days in previous years to decorate my tree!!! No packing and unpacking of ornaments or stringing and unstringing of lights. Granted, we don’t have any super fragile special ornaments, so it’s not earth shattering if something breaks, so for us this worked wonderfully.
***Now if you have little ones where they may be tempted to play with the plastic wrapping, I would not recommend this, because always safety first! Keep plastic wrapping away from children and pets!
We thoroughly enjoyed our tree this year, and it was a cinch to put up and take down!
