I like having ingredients on hand for a quick no bake dessert. It’s nice for an “emergency” sweet tooth, or for when guests stop by unexpectedly.  Rice crispy treats are often my go to no-bake dessert, which works great because the main ingredients store so well.  I have a couple of special rice crispy treats recipes that I like!

However, another recipe I like just as well, and which is wonderful for chocolate
and peanut butter lovers, are these Reese’s Puffs Peanut Butter Balls.
My mom has been making this recipe for years, but she often uses different cereals
like Cocoa Puffs or cookies and cream puffed cereal (She said this recipe is from a
cookbook called The Best 1001 Short, Easy Recipes).
My favorite cereal to make it with though, is Reese’s Puffs!  😛
I made a double batch over Thanksgiving, and they were gobbled up by all.

Here’s the recipe:
6 Cups Reese’s Puffs cereal
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 1/4 cups peanut butter (you can use crunchy or creamy)

In a large bowl, measure out six cups of cereal, so you’ll be ready for it later.

Then in a saucepan, mix the sugar and corn syrup together over medium heat, and let it come to a boil.  When it does, take it off the heat, and stir in the peanut butter.

Pour this mixture over your cereal, and mix quickly and well, without crushing your cereal.

Give your hands a quick spray with cooking spray, and form cereal balls about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.  It’s good to have help with this, so your cereal mixture doesn’t harden before you get all the balls formed.

I like to lay out wax paper to lay them on as I’m forming them.

Depending on your size of yours, this recipe makes about 20 balls (In the picture I had doubled the recipe).

Keep them in an airtight container or in large ziploc bags, to keep them fresh.

  1. Do these harden? I’m planning to use them as a base for a reeces tree with miniatures stuck on with chocolate when it’s set but need it to be able to be set in a ball shape and the hold it’s shape. Would this work?
