Update: My son and daughter no longer share a room, but we all liked the colors, decor and organization from this room!
It’s finally done! I’ve been sharing my attempts at decorating and organizing the room my youngest son and daughter are going to share for a little while, while we hopefully finish some remodeling. The room they are sharing was my daughters, so I wanted to change it enough to make it little boy friendly.
This is my daughter’s room before.
I made some artwork, but then decided I didn’t want to limit myself to those colors,
AND, I thought it looked more like art for a nursery.
So… then I had fun making this balloon wreath to add some primary colors to the room.
I had a bit of a time recovering this lampshade, but I do like how it turned out.
I added some frugal artwork made from a folder,and a pillowcase.
The colors from this rug, which I stole from the kids play area in the basement, went perfectly with the other “new” accessories.I purchased some colorful blankets and white sheets for their bunk beds, and I am calling the room DONE.
Here it is, the finished bright and cheery space.
My daughter has permanently declared the bottom bunk hers, after the first week of fighting over the top bunk.
My talented brother-in-law made this white bookshelf for me last year, and I decided to use it above the top bunk for my little guy to keep some of his special books, and at night, his cup of water.
It does a good job of adding some dimension and color to the space above the bunk beds.
I weeded out and relocated some toys to the basement to be able to fit some of my son’s favorite toys, in his same bins.
I switched out the pink bows on my daughters baskets with green twine.
I’ve always liked the simple hanging globe light in this room.
The last corner in the room has another white dresser for my son’s clothes, while he shares his sister’s room.
I probably spent around $100 for this temporary room, on the sheets, blankets, laundry basket and on supplies for the artwork.
I am so happy with how it turned out; with all the color and natural light the room has anyway, it’s such a pleasant sunny space.

I love that colorful rug – it really pulls the room together.
I love this – I have almost finished a shared room for my 1&2 year old however if my teens are still at home in a couple of years I’ll have too look at updating. I have a question – what age do you think they should stop sharing? I just don’tknow.

How fun! My two oldest share a room as well . It works out, although I can definitely see the need for separate rooms in the future. My oldest wakes up super early, and often wakes up my middle guy…
It does make it easier to share a room when two are on the same schedule! 🙂
