Tacos are my family’s all time favorite dinner! When my parents still lived in the area, my brother, sister and I, along with our spouses and kids, 🙂 would all go to my parents house for Sunday dinner. I have wonderful memories of that time in our life, and incidentally, the most commonly requested meal that we enjoyed together, was tacos.
We didn’t know about baked tacos then, but now that I do, it’s my preferred way by far to fix tacos, and I’m a picky taco connoisseur! It’s the absolute tastiest method, in my opinion, and it’s a great way to make them for a crowd. It saves time and eliminates a lot of the mess!
Here’s how to make them…
Ingredients:
One pound ground beef
6 hard taco shells
1 one ounce package taco seasoning or homemade seasoning
2/3 cup water
8 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
Optional: black beans, Spanish rice, taco sauce, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream
Brown ground beef thoroughly and then drain. Add back to pan with 2/3 cup water and taco seasoning, over low to medium heat, and stir while simmering for around 4 minutes or till water and seasoning is incorporated well.
Line up your taco shells in a baking dish, and portion out your meat into the shells. Top the meat with your desired amount of cheese. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes, till your taco shells are slightly toasted, the meat is warmed through, and the cheese is all gooey and melted. YUM!
Top with your favorite toppings, and you’re ready to serve!
These shells with the flat bottoms are the easiest ones to use for these baked tacos, but I’ve used the regular ones many times too; you just have to put them close together to help hold each other up. 🙂
This is my absolute favorite way to make tacos, because the shells get nice and crunchy, but also a tiny bit chewy with the moisture from the meat, and the cheese gets all nice and melted and gooey! Sometimes I don’t even use the taco seasoning in the meat, and it’s awesome that way too!

You can easily double or triple this recipe to make enough tacos for a crowd.
Another one of my favorite recipes done in the oven, and great for a crowd, are these grilled cheese sandwiches baked in the oven. You have to give them a try too!

I love the idea of oven baked tacos. However when I tried a recipe like this, the taco shells broke when lifting out or they were soggy and stuck to the pan. Any suggestions? Thank you.
Maybe use less liquid, and give the pan a quick spray with cooking spray before putting the tacos in… Hope this helps!
I haven’t tried baked tacos but these look delicious. I will have to give it a go.
