Joyful Homemaking

Joyful Homemaking

A Heart For Home

Menu Plan for the Week

July 25, 2016

Family dinnertime is a little different now, than when I was a kid, some -ahem- 30 plus years ago.  I was more in the “children are seen and not heard” generation, especially at dinnertime, and the “eat whatever is on your plate without complaining” school of thought.  Nowadays, children are very much “seen and heard” and that’s a good thing, but I must admit, as a parent of a couple of picky eaters, I miss the “old” attitude of “eat whatever is on your plate without complaining” popular sentiment of a generation or two ago.  I have been known to utter the words, “It’s not like I’m serving you beets or liver,” to my kids, more than a couple of times.  😛   I keep offering foods that I think they SHOULD like, and try to limit fast foods to once in a while, so that they get used to fresher, healthier options, but I can certainly empathize with you if it seems like an uphill battle sometimes…

In this week’s edition of my menu plan, I’ve put together some of the very most kid pleasing options for dinner to try and help us out!

Grocery list:  Ground beef, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, biscuits, Cheddar cheese and pickles

My dessert choice of the week is Strawberry Banana “Ice Cream,” which is cool, refreshing and delicious, and so very closely resembles ice cream, but gets in some fresh fruit servings!

I do the ovenbaked grilled cheese too. We like to add deli ham, Swiss cheese, pineapple chunks, and American cheese. Can fit 6 sandwiches in a 13×9. Bake 350 for about 8 minutes. I use stale bread or dollar store bread because it toasts. Kids love it!
